GUC is committed to creating an inclusive, accessible, and empowering environment for all persons, including individuals with disabilities. This policy provides guidance on promoting equitable participation, accessibility, and protection for people with disabilities across all GUC programs, operations, governance, and partnerships.
The policy aligns with GUC’s constitutional values of equity, inclusion, integrity, and youth empowerment (globalunionofchangemakers.com) and international standards including:
UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)
WHO Guidelines on Disability Inclusion
Best practices for non-profit, youth-focused international organizations
This policy applies to:
Board members, staff, volunteers, interns, and consultants;
Program participants and beneficiaries;
Partners, sponsors, and stakeholders engaged in GUC activities;
All organizational operations, events, workshops, digital platforms, and community engagements.
Non-Discrimination – People with disabilities have equal rights to participate, contribute, and benefit from GUC programs and opportunities.
Accessibility – GUC ensures physical, digital, and communication accessibility in all offices, events, and programs.
Participation & Empowerment – People with disabilities are actively involved in decision-making, program design, and leadership opportunities.
Equity & Inclusion – GUC addresses systemic barriers and provides accommodations to enable full participation.
Respect & Dignity – All individuals are treated with respect, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
Accountability – GUC leadership and staff are responsible for enforcing this policy, monitoring outcomes, and reporting progress.
4.1 Leadership & Governance
Promote disability inclusion at governance and management levels.
Allocate resources for accessibility, accommodations, and training.
Monitor and evaluate the implementation of disability-inclusive practices.
4.2 Management & Staff
Ensure recruitment, training, and career development are inclusive and accessible.
Implement accommodations for staff, volunteers, and participants with disabilities.
Integrate disability inclusion in program design, delivery, and monitoring.
4.3 Partners & Stakeholders
Engage only with partners who demonstrate a commitment to disability inclusion.
Include accessibility and inclusion clauses in partnerships, MOUs, and funding agreements.
Inclusive Design – All programs, events, and materials are designed to be accessible and inclusive.
Participation & Leadership – Encourage leadership roles and active participation of persons with disabilities in all activities.
Communication – Provide accessible formats (e.g., braille, sign language, captions) where necessary.
Feedback Mechanisms – Establish inclusive channels for reporting accessibility concerns or discrimination.
Regular training for staff, volunteers, and partners on disability awareness, inclusion strategies, and accommodations.
Promote awareness campaigns targeting communities, program participants, and stakeholders.
Encourage peer support and mentorship programs to empower participants with disabilities.
Collect disability-disaggregated data to measure participation, outcomes, and program accessibility.
Conduct annual reviews of policy effectiveness and integration into programs.
Update strategies and practices to reflect emerging best practices and legal requirements.
Establish clear reporting channels for discrimination, accessibility issues, or violations of this policy.
Investigate reports confidentially, promptly, and fairly.
Apply disciplinary actions or corrective measures for violations of disability inclusion principles.
This policy is reviewed at least every two years, or more frequently in response to legal, social, or operational changes.
Updates reflect international standards, organizational learning, and stakeholder feedback.
This Disability Inclusion Policy is formally adopted by the Executive Council of GUC to ensure an inclusive, accessible, and equitable organization for all, especially youth and vulnerable populations.
